Royal Affair

It was released this weekend that Prince William and Kate Middleton invited 1,900 people to their April wedding at Westminster Abbey.

To put things in perspective, our guest list is barely 7% of that of Kate and Will's.

My favorite factoids from this royal affair:

On this side of the Atlantic, brides-to-be can invite American "royalty" to their wedding. By sending a wedding invitation to the President and First lady, formal etiquette requires a letter of congratulations be sent in return. How fancy!

Consider adding two more to your guest list under:

The Honorable Barack and Mrs. Obama
The White House
Greetings Office, Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20500

Cheers!

Save the Seals

During my parents' visit this weekend, we reminisced over lunch with Adam's mom about our respective childhood memories.

Needless to say, I sounded like the bigger freak.

There was no need for the family photo album. Everyone got the picture:

To begin, this is 3-year-old Kate as she pretends to marry her dad in front of the fireplace.

Oh, oh! This was when Kate was really into baby dolls. She named this little one after LeAnn Rimes.

(
I'll do the math for you: LeAnn Rimes' debut album, Blue, topped billboard charts in 1996. That means I was a 10-year-old baby-doll-carrying country music fan.)

And just to bring it up to speed: This is Ross, Kate's seal puppet. She sleeps with him to this very day.

Now, how in the heck am I suppose to justify that one to my future mother-in-law? To ANYONE, really?

You know what, I just can't. I have a stuffed animal named Ross. He happens to be a seal and a puppet all in one, and I love him.

If you want one, too, I found you one on
ebay.

Please save the seals,

In the woods: the mission statement

As you know, Kate and I are right in the hot middle of our wedding planning process. We're still in the woods. The process is super exciting and very encouraging, but we've a long way to go before the finish.

Here, dear reader, I will try my hand at metaphor. See, Kate and I like to hike.

Pretend that this point in the wedding planning process we are only 2.4 miles from getting to the trailhead.

Though we are a still in the woods in terms of wedding planning, we both realize that we don't want to rush the process. Things do need to get done and do need to be taken care of quickly, but they need to be done deliberately. We may have gotten a million things done in such a short time (at least to me it seems so) but each step has been carefully thought out.

In the beginning, before any of the wedding planning began we both agreed to take a multi-day hiatus from getting things done. The urge to get a running start was too great and we realized that we needed to enjoy our brief moment of engagement bliss. Though Kate (BTB) went out and got her a red binder and we kind of already started talking about wedding plans we made a point to sit down and write out our "Mission Statement" for the wedding.

That's right, I said "Mission Statement." Kate and I sat down and wrote lists of why we want to get married, what we want to happen at our wedding and why. After comparing notes, we compiled a list and prayed about it. Whenever Kate and I get in a tight spot over the cheese tray, guests, music, or how hot it may be, I reference the mission statement.

The biggest thing for us to remember is that it is a celebration of God's work in our lives.

That list brings us back to our roots and back to our senses.

Every day we hang out we realize how much easier this whole process would be if we just lived together! But alas, that is part of the process. I guess I can wait a few more agonizing months.

Christmastime

Through sniffles and sneezes I await the Christmas holiday. I head home tomorrow afternoon to snowy Virginia (double yay!). Joining me for the ride is another Virginia/Knoxville bride-to-be! I look forward to her company and conversation.

On Monday Adam and I exchanged Christmas presents for the first time as fiances; second time ever; and last time before we're Mr. and Mrs.

Honestly, I couldn't have asked for anything more on top of the joyful and thrilling engagement. Christmas came early this year -- at least the gift part!

Thankfully, Adam's presents didn't try to compete with the sparkling one I now permanently wear. Let's be honest, how could it?

Regardless, I don't think I could have taken another feminine, delicate, blushingly romantic gift. Therefore my new Carhartt overalls, hiking socks and winter gloves speak to my heart in a different tone.

My gift to Adam (above) played off his 2009 gift to me. This Timex made exclusively for JCrew has been burning a hole in my pocket since Nov. 1. It's now in its rightful place: on Adam's wrist.

Gifts aside, Christmas will be flighty this year. We're both celebrating with our families, however I will join his crew after my parents leave on the 26th for a trip to Mexico.

I'm anticipating it all to feel rushed and surreal. However, I'm (desperately) hoping to enjoy my last Christmas alone with my parents.

With stinging eyes,

THANKSgiving

Kate and I are about to head to Harrisonburg to visit with her family for Thanksgiving. Woohoo!

Last year Kate joined me and my family in Morristown for a feast and now it is my turn. This will be my first Thanksgiving away from home... EVER. I'm sad that I won't be with my family but at the same time excited that I will get to experience the holiday with Kate's family.

I'll be comparing turkey techniques, pie provisions and cranberry sauce craftiness. Just kidding! It's gonna be good.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
